Sony Interactive Windows

The Sony design team had an awesome idea: build an app that allows users to interactively browse Sony's premium products directly through the storefront window displays of Manhattan’s Madison Avenue.

Sony interactive windows app: motion prototype

Target and Challenge

The holiday launch was fast approaching with very limited time, shifting budgetary constraints, and minimal user research. I needed stakeholder, engineer, and vendor feedback to understand key features and research that would provide the best usability for a premium customer experience.

Quick sketches, wireframes, and user flows help guide key stakeholders and developers to understand how the app will function.

Problems Solved

It's cold in Manhattan in the winter! As such, we chose a touchfoil technology that allowed users to interact with the window, even while wearing gloves. Due to lack of time and money, we used six Sony tablets running Windows; our engineer was able to code the app, allowing us to bypass the lengthy app submission process.

The visuals are sleek and minimalistic, while the usability is responsive and fluid, giving the whole experience a premium feel.

Outcomes and Achievements

The holiday windows generated additional traffic to Sony’s NYC flagship store. Customer engagement was up, and we increased sell-through for the holiday season by 15%.
